Horse Jumps
If you're thinking about competing in hunter jumper shows, one of the things you will need for you barn is a good set of horse jumps so you can school at home and be prepared for the arena. This includes standards, polls, and jump cups at the very least. If you already have a basic set of jumps, you might consider adding some flashier jumps and accessories to your set so that you can expose your horse to every possible obstacle you might encounter at the show. Here are a few jumps you might want to buy:
Roll Top
Roll tops can come in a variety of colors, but at horse shows they tend to be made from wood and covered in artificial grass.
Liverpool
If you plan on competing in jumpers or top-level equitation, you will want to practice jumping a liverpool or blue tarp at the very least. This is one of the spookiest jumps, so it's a good idea to get your horse accustomed to it.
Brush and Flower Boxes
Even at the small, unrated shows you will see brush and flower boxes. Make sure you get many different colored artificial flowers to fill up each box.
Brick Wall
Brick walls are actually wood walls painted to look like bricks. However, they have a very solid look that can sometimes be intimidating to horses.
Gates and Planks
Gates and planks are great for filling out jumps and giving them a different appearance.
Once you have all the necessary jumps it's important to remember to change the course frequently and rearrange the boxes and rails. Also, remember to jump plain, white, simple jumps too -- you never know what your horse might find spooky!
