Stable Supplies Buying Guide
If you’re thinking about running your own stable, however small or large, you will have to outfit it with all the necessary equipment to keep the horses happy and healthy. There are some essential items you will need right away like buckets and pitchforks, while other items are not as important but you might want to purchase further down the line like stall guards. Here is a list of some items you will want for your new barn.
Buckets. If you don’t plan on having an automated watering system, you will need to have at least one large water bucker per stall. You will also need buckets for feed, cleaning tack, and washing horses.
Carts and pitchforks. Carts and pitchforks are very important to have around for cleaning the stalls on a daily basis.
Tack stands. You will need places to put all your tack so that it stays in good form. You will need saddle racks and bridle hooks in a separate tack room and also for the grooming area.
Cross ties. Crossties are safer than tying your horses to a post, and much more convenient. Make sure the crossties are sturdy but also have safety, quick-release features.
Feed storage and scoops. It’s very important to have a secure, dry place to store grain. You will need to keep it away from critters, and stored so that it doesn’t risk getting moldy.
Horse trailer. If you plan on competing in horseshows or traveling to good horse trails, you will need a really good quality trailer. Make sure the size will fit your largest horse, and that there are the right amount of spaces.
Tack trunks. Tack trunks are a great way to keep all of your nice tack and grooming supplies in a safe, organized place.
Jumps. If you have a hunter/jumper stable you will need good, solid jumps and rails to go in the arena. You can start out with plain wooden jumps that you can paint on your own, or get a full-set of fancy show jumps, rails, gates and flower boxes.
Once you’ve got all the necessary items for your new stable, then it’s time for all those little touches that make your barn that much more special. You can get horse and barn signs, decals, horse toys, stall guards, nameplates, arena equipment, horse treats and more. Make sure you take time customizing so you end up with your dream stables.
